Get Involved
There are a number of different ways that you can get involved with BKYP.
The Bradford and Keighley Youth Parliament is there to represent your views on decisions that affect you. Get involved with BKYP and help us make Bradford a better place for young people.
Come to the road show
A
road show is held in each area after the elections. It gives young
people the chance to pick the issues that their MYPs work on. Keep
checking out BKYP.com for updates on when the next dates of the
roadshows will be. For information on the issues chosen at the last
conferences visit the constituency pages.
Come to an area session
MYPs
meet in their area every week. The sessions are where MYPs take part in
activities, plan project and work on the priorities chosen during the
road show. The sessions are open to anyone so if you want to see what is
going on with BKYP in your area come along and find out! For details of
when and where the MYPs' sessions are visit our constituencies page.
Attend the public meeting
The
BKYP public meeting is a chance for people to hear about the work that
the MYPs have been doing. It is held in the City Hall chambers in
Bradford. The meeting is open to anyone who wants to hear what
their MYPs have been doing. Any young person can place an item on the
agenda for the public meeting. A debate is also held as part of the
meeting and any young person can put forward the topic for debate.
The next public meeting will be held on the 25th June 2009. For a report
on the last public meeting click here.
Become a BKYP sub group
Are
you doing some work on an issue that could benefit from being taken to
decision makers? By becoming a sub group of BKYP you can use the youth
parliament's mechanisms to take your work directly to the decision
makers. Becoming a BKYP sub group could allow you to take your work
further than may have been possible before. Any group of young people
can apply to be a BKYP sub group whether you are a school council, a
youth group or just a committed group of young people working on an
issue you care about.
Vote in the elections
BKYP
elections are held every two years in January. The next elections will
be held in January 2011. Polling stations are held in schools, youth
centres and other venues across the district. You can also vote by text
or online. The voting website is www.bkypelections.co.uk keep an eye out for more information.
Stand to be an MYP
If
you want to make a change in the area you live why not stand to be an
MYP? The next elections are in January 2011 but candidate training will
start early next year. More details will be on BKYP.com soon but if you
are interested in becoming an MYP you can come along to the constituency
meetings to see what it's like to be an MYP. There may even be a space
for you to be co-opted onto the current parliament if there are spaces. Contact us for more information.
